Anchoring without scale distortion

چکیده
Abstract The scale distortion theory of anchoring argues that people are influenced by a previously considered numeric value, an anchor, because the anchor distorts on which subsequent judgment is made. due to momentary effect would be overridden if was distorted again, for example, consideration different value same scale. In present study, participants compared thirteen random anchors objects. Subsequent estimates objects’ attributes were corresponding even though divided from twelve questions pertaining values immediately before estimate did not have considerable judgment. While robust, it cannot easily explained distortion. Other possible theories compatible with results.

A scale distortion theory of anchoring.
We propose that anchoring is often best interpreted as a scaling effect--that the anchor changes how the response scale is used, not how the focal stimulus is perceived. Of importance, we maintain that this holds true even for so-called objective scales (e.g., pounds, calories, meters, etc.). In support of this theory of scale distortion, we show that prior exposure to a numeric standard change...

Anchoring effects are robust, varied and can be consequential. Researchers have provided a variety of alternative explanations for these effects. More recently, it has become apparent that anchoring effects might be produced by a variety of different processes, either acting simultaneously, or else individually in distinct situations. An unresolved issue is whether anchoring, aside from simple ...
متن کاملComposite Pulses without Phase Distortion
Composite pulses for broadband spin excitation over large ranges of radiofrequency field amplitudes and resonance offsets are presented. They are derived according to a previously presented method based on the Magnus expansion in the manner of coherent averaging theory. It is shown theoretically and in simulations that these composite pulses do not introduce a strong dependence of the NMR signa...
متن کاملScheimpflug records without distortion--a mythos?
The Scheimpflug principle was recommended as allowing distortion-free imaging; however, a detailed analysis reveals geometrical errors as well as distortions arising from absorption of light along the optical pathway. Correction formulas and factors will be presented and applied to the biometry of the eye.
متن کاملPash: efficient genome-scale sequence anchoring by Positional Hashing.
Pash is a computer program for efficient, parallel, all-against-all comparison of very long DNA sequences. Pash implements Positional Hashing, a novel parallelizable method for sequence comparison based on k-mer representation of sequences. The Positional Hashing method breaks the comparison problem in a unique way that avoids the quadratic penalty encountered with other sensitive methods and c...
